The City of Pelham, known for its vibrant community and commitment to indoor and outdoor recreational activities, seeks a talented Communications Specialist for Recreation. This role is pivotal in shaping and sharing the narrative of Pelham’s dynamic and diverse recreation offerings, including Pelham Parks & Recreation, Pelham Racquet Club, Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena, and Ballantrae Golf Club. As a key player in engaging residents and visitors, the Communications Specialist will create dynamic content, manage outreach strategies, and ensure that Pelham’s parks, programs, and events are showcased to their fullest potential and in a way that will resonate with our community and in surrounding areas. Essential Job Duties:

  • Develops internal and external communications promoting community awareness and public support for all things related to recreation for the City of Pelham and its brand.
  • Collaborates with various recreation departments to maintain social media accounts and websites and monitor trends to enhance the City’s digital presence. 
  • Assists with the implementation of strategic plans of the Communications Department that help promote and support the City’s image.   
  • Creates and maintains relationships with the public to ensure that news about the City of Pelham is being shared with the Pelham community. 
  • Works closely with the Communications and Branding Manager and department heads in Parks & Recreation, the Pelham Racquet Club, Ballantrae Golf Club, and the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena to identify marketing opportunities and advise program planners to implement initiatives. 
  • Assists in promoting and hosting press events, community outreach, public relations, ribbon cuttings, etc., for the City of Pelham. 
  • Assists with coordinating television/radio appearances and interviews as needed for community outreach initiatives. 
  • Creates and edits compelling content, including articles, photos, videos, infographics, and other multimedia elements that market Parks & Recreation, the Pelham Racquet Club, Ballantrae Golf Club, and the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena in all communications

Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $59,667 – $81,320. The City of Pelham also offers an excellent benefits package and participates in the Retirement Systems of Alabama.
